Brian Lee
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/brian-lee

Talent Analysis

The University of North Dakota recruit was an imposing player at the high school level, possessing good size and superb skating skills. He can play in all situations, can easily move the puck up ice, and is adept at joining the rush. Lee has excellent hockey sense and handles the puck with ease. Lee plays well in his own zone and his smooth skating ability gives him terrific gap control. He is rarely beaten on a rush. Despite being more of an offensive defenseman, Lee lacks the creativity to be an effective quarterback. He is still a good option for the power play though because of his reliability, calm demeanor, and poise with the puck. Lee has added body strength over the years, but still does not possess a mean streak. His 6’3 frame should allow him to play a solid physical game, but Lee rarely finishes his checks.

Moorhead High School Coach Dave Morinville told Hockey’s Future that Lee is very coachable and compares Lee to another American defenseman.

"He is an extremely great leader in a quiet way," said Morinville. "He's a guy I always compare to Brian Leetch, as he's solid defensively and he's guy that can bring you some offense without giving up chances." Morinville added that Lee is a dedicated student to the game, and indicated that Lee put an emphasis on plyometric and sprint work in the off-season, recognizing that first step quickness will play a huge role at the next level. Lee did not see much ice time with the U-20 team, but his resume should push him into the first round.

Cote espérée: 73

Josh Hennessy
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/josh_hennessy

QMJHL 269 parties 128 buts 163 passes 291 points +33
AHL 156 parties 51 buts 69 passes 120 points

Future

Hennessy already possesses the skating, speed, and natural offensive instinct/skill necessary to play in the NHL. Correcting his weaknesses should not be difficult, as it is simply a need to add some muscle and reinforce defensive responsibilities. A future as a second or third line forward who is dangerous on the power play seems like a reasonable projection. Hennessy should challenge for an NHL roster spot in 2007-08 and is one of the more NHL-ready prospects for the Ottawa Senators.

Cote espérée: 72

Igor Mirnov
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/igor_mirnov

Talent Analysis

Mirnov is by no means the big, strapping, power forward the Senators have always coveted. He is a quick, darting forward who loves to shoot the puck. It is his shot that is his biggest weapon. In this respect, he is similar to former Senators youngster Petr Schastlivy. A left-shooting right winger, Mirnov has grown into playing on his off wing, and that allows him to get his shot off on the fly. Although he has solid hands, Mirnov is no Martin Havlat with the puck. He is a goal scorer, but his speed and shot combination is his bread and butter.

Not big, nor particularly physical, Mirnov is unlikely to stick in the NHL unless he is on a scoring line. He lacks the size or strength to be a grinder, and is by no means a defensive stalwart. That is why former Russian Senators prospect Alexei Kaigorodov, with whom Mirnov was often measured, was considered a safer prospect. That being said, if Mirnov were to commit to self-improvement and off-season conditioning, he would stand a significantly better chance at cracking the deep Senators line-up in the near future.

As Mirnov’s career progressed in the RSL, his decision making abilities with the puck vastly improved. He never hesitates to drive to the net and is hard to knock off the puck. A tireless worker, Mirnov plays well along the boards, has added strength and some size, and has developed better on ice vision. His very dangerous, quick release and accurate wrist shot is still his most coveted weapon.

Future

Mirnov has definite scoring line potential. He signed a one year deal with HC Dynamo for the 2007-08 season, but there is still a chance that he could wind up in Ottawa for training camp. The problem is whether or not Mirnov is willing to take the time to develop the way the Senators best see fit. As a Russian prospect, Mirnov is another flight risk.

Ilya Zubov
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/ilya_zubov

Talent Analysis

Zubov is a very offensively gifted forward, one of the best 1987 born Russian forwards. A speedster with a very smooth stride, Zubov is strong in tight spaces and can dangle extremely well. Zubov possesses a precise and very dangerous wrist shot which he uses often. His above average on-ice vision allows him to distribute the puck well and make needle-threading passes. Primarily an offensive player, often skating as the pivot on the top line, Zubov is no slouch in the defensive zone as he works very hard to help out his team in the backend. He possesses decent size but does not use it often enough and isn’t very comfortable playing in traffic areas. Zubov has the ability to play wing, but is a natural centerman, though he needs to work on his faceoffs.

Future

Zubov has an impressive package of skill and natural offensive instinct making him a good candidate to become a top six forward at the NHL level.

Nick Foligno
http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/nick_foligno

SEASON TEAM GP G A PTS PIM +/-
2005 Sudbury (OHL) 12 5 5 10 16 4
2005-06 Sudbury (OHL) 65 24 46 70 146 19
2006 Sudbury (OHL) 10 1 3 4 28 0
2006-07 Sudbury (OHL) 66 31 57 88 135 13
2007 Sudbury (OHL) 21 12 17 29 36 14

Talent Analysis

Not a huge goal scorer, Foligno is nonetheless a rugged forward with some skill who is not afraid to put his body in jeopardy in order to engineer a scoring chance. Apparently the apple doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Foligno often plays with a chip on his shoulder. He combines an ability to put the puck in the net with the willingness to get his nose dirty and do the hard work in the corners.

He is a decent skater and is regularly involved, but one knock on him has been that he is sometimes selective in when he wants to work and compete. Foligno possesses a quick wrist shot and shows good hockey sense and vision. He makes creative plays and can impress with some nifty stickhandling. He is an opportunistic offensive player who is often found in the right place at the right time. Like most young forwards, work on the defensive aspects of the game is definitely required.

Future

Foligno’s play in the 2006-07 OHL season earned him a three-year max entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators on March 21st, 2007. He still has one year left of junior eligibility, but it’s more than likely he’ll play in the AHL with the Binghamton Senators unless he is extremely impressive in training camp. Foligno will undoubtedly get his shot in the NHL, but he still needs to get a little stronger and more mature, specifically in the defensive end. Ottawa’s depth in the forward ranks means there is no reason to rush this young player who should have a long successful NHL career, much like his father.
